The Four Horsemen are poets Rafael Barreto-Rivera, Paul Dutton, Steve McCaffery, and bpNichol. The group formed in Toronto in 1970 and has released two books, one of individually composed poems for the page and one of individually and collectively composed scores for sound poems. Two albums and one cassette have also appeared and the group has performed widely throughout Canada, Europe, and the U.S.A.

2 Nights is the first sound recording to be issued by The Four Horsemen in over ten years. It consists of freely improvised sound poems created in performance in the "Within Limits" jazz program at The Music Gallery in Toronto. None of the pieces is titled, but the time-length of each is noted for reference convenience.
